keshi @ Fillmore // 05.24.22
From SoundCloud to the stage, Texas born Vietnamese American singer, songwriter, and producer – keshi – began the journey across Europe and North America with his completely sold-out headlining “HELL / HEAVEN TOUR”. Following the March debut of his highly anticipated album GABRIEL, keshi set out to entertain his wildly dedicated and enthusiastic fans alongside special guest performer, rei brown.
rei brown, a New York-based Japanese American artist known for his alternative indie-pop vibe, serenaded the packed venue with his sultry-sweet voice. Accompanied by dreamy background music and simple stage lighting, fans were enamored with his solo performance, excitedly waving and screaming whenever he leaned their way. rei continued to heat up the crowd with his ethereal sounding songs as people steadily streamed in to fill every corner of the sold-out venue. His fervent performance was the perfect introduction to what would be a very hot night at the Fillmore.
When keshi hit the stage, all hell (and heaven) broke loose – the crowd welcoming him with a literal roar of excitement. Backed by a live band consisting of keyboards, guitar, and drums, including cool video effects delivered via on-stage screen, he performed a robust mix of new tracks from his recent album GABRIEL, and fan favorites from throughout his career. The crowd – knowing all the lyrics – sang along to every song, and used their cell phones to illuminate the stage at certain points of the show, even sharing text-generated signs of adoration in hopes that keshi would read them whenever he looked their way. Mid-set he brought out an electric guitar to accompany his melodic voice, much to the delight of the fans. Exchanging energy with the crowd and moving effortlessly across stage throughout the entire show, keshi definitely gave everyone a performance to remember. After the lights dimmed, voices chanted his name as loud as thunder in hopes of persuading him to come back for a much-appreciated encore.
Surprising everyone at the end, keshi hopped down from the stage to connect with the crowd – rushing from one end of the barrier to the other greeting many smiling faces and outstretched hands – before closing out with a kiss and a bow. After such a well-rounded show by both keshi and rei brown, fans are definitely hoping for a repeat performance later this year.
